GPO Competition

Event Now Finished

Artists from all over the world were invited to submit applications for their work to feature on the GPO, as part of the 2025 ‘Dublin City Council Dublin Winter Lights’ programme. The competition is judged by an esteemed panel of internationally-recognised judges.

The iconic GPO is the perfect canvas for stunning visuals and graphics. A full digital projection of artworks by 8 internationally renowned digital artists transforms the building. With imagination and creativity the artists have explored the theme “Liberation”.

This projection invites the viewer into a Fairytale Amusement Park—a space where fantasies become reality and imagination is freed from the constraints of the real world.

An artistic interpretation of Liberation through Lights ‘Eclipsed to Eternal’, is a visual journey that redefines liberations not as a single event but as a profound process of awakening, transformation, and cosmic unification.

Transmutations II

This creative artwork reimagines the General Post Office as a living, evolving structure, breaking away from static monumentality to reveal new forms beneath its surface.

Saoirse and the Spirit of Freedom

A little girl named Saoirse finds a star crushed in the ground. She sets our to restore the star to its rightful place by carrying it to the General Post Office.

The Great Unbinding

A wireframe locks the GPO in digital geometry. Wireframe bubbles burst into vivid, yet tightly structured colour, echoing our controlled digital life. Then a dark tree spreads. Finally, wild, organic colours escape the grid, a true act of liberation.

Lonnaigh do Sholas’ ‘Shine Your Light

This piece tells a story that mirrors Ireland’s enduring journey toward liberation through a condensed reflection on Irish history, from Neolithic age myths and ancient folklore through to the struggle for independence, and into the modern era.

SHINE

This work explores freedom as an inner process – a reclaiming of voice, identity and personal expression. Inspired by conscious hip hop and Dadaist aesthetics, it blends text, glitches and typographic collages.
