2024 COMPETITION WINNERS
GPO And National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks

Dublin City Council is delighted to announce the two talented winners of the International ‘Dublin City Council Dublin Winter Lights’ GPO and National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks Competition are Christopher Harrison and Metanoia.

GPO WINNER
Infinite by Christopher Harrison

Christopher is a multi-disciplinary storyteller whose work is unified by a desire to tell accessible and engaging narratives. The winning artwork, Infinite, explores the themes of growth and renewal, reflecting the ever-changing balance between nature and human progress. A lush forest is destroyed to house a giant machine, before nature reclaims its space. Combining hand-drawn 2D elements, motion graphics and archive images, the animation is accompanied by an original music score.

Accepting the award for the GPO, Christopher Harrison said, “I am delighted that Infinite has been selected by the jury as the winner of the GPO projection mapping contest. I loved working with such an iconic building, which is a fantastic canvas for exploring such big themes. Thank you to Dublin City Council and the jury; as an artist, it means the world to me that my work was selected and had such an impact.”

National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks WINNER
Intersperse by Metanoia Creatives

Julie Tampierová, Jakub Nosek and Denisa Pubalova are interdisciplinary artists and creative technologists who form Metanoia Creatives. Their work explores different digital audiovisual techniques and has been seen by audiences throughout Europe. The winning artwork, Intersperse, was an immersive concept that combines two artistic approaches – colour fields and optical illusions. Colour field painting combined with geometrical patterns to achieve the illusion of colour and space wrapping viewers into one whole symbiotic organism. The video mapping was accompanied by a subtle, surround soundscape.

Accepting the award for National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks, Metanoia Creatives said, “We are beyond thrilled to be chosen by the judges as the winners this year. Our journey as a creative collective properly began last year at this very same festival. So Dublin City Council Dublin Winter Lights holds a very special place in our hearts as it was the first big video mapping we’ve done and now it is also our first time winning a competition. We are grateful to be featured amongst all of the talented artists, many of whom have been our inspiration for years.”
